Bulletin Announcements 02-24-2019

WELCOME and thank you for your part in this service of worship.   If you are a visitor here at the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair (PCUM), you are especially welcome. May you sense in this place the presence and the love of God in Christ.

PLEASE ASK AN USHER for children’s bulletins, audio-assist units, or anything you might need. Whenever possible, please help your fellow worshipers by exiting and entering the sanctuary at times other than during prayers or scripture readings.

CHILD CARE for toddlers and a Nursery for younger children are always available during worship in the newly renovated North Wing, located off Fellowship Hall (adjacent to sanctuary).  Please ask an usher for directions.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES for all children age 3 through 7th grade are located in the North Wing. Church School leaders are available to help students & parents find their classrooms. Register your child(ren) for Sunday School by filling out a registration form.  Registration forms are available from Mary Beckhusen, Director of Christian Education.

SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY CLASS meets weekly at 8:30 a.m. in the Library (off Fellowship Hall).  Come, contribute to this weekly time of fellowship and fun as we develop our Bible-reading skills and discover together God’s Presence and voice in our everyday lives.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP meets Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. All 6th through 8th graders are invited to come out for an awesome time with Pastor Katherine!  Dinner is always served.  Friends welcome.

THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CONGREGATION AND CORPORATION of the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair will be held Sunday, March 3rd, in Fellowship Hall, immediately following the 10:00 a.m. worship service. A light lunch and child care will be provided.  Please mark your calendars! The purpose of the meeting is to receive the Annual Report of PCUM’s ministry in 2018; to act on the nomination of leaders (elders on Session, Deacons, and Trustees); to act on the recommendation to approve the 2019 Terms of Call (compensation) for the pastor; to review the 2019 church ministry budget as approved by Session; and to discuss any other business of ministry that comes before the congregation. All active members of PCUM have voice and vote at the meeting—and are encouraged to attend. As part of the approval of the 2019 Terms of Call, we will recognize Greg’s 10th anniversary with PCUM with special gifts to celebrate his ministry with us.  Please make a special effort to be part of this recognition and celebration.

PCUM’S CHILDREN’S CHOIR MINISTRY (2nd-5th graders) teaches children to love music and lead their church family in worship. Kids not only learn the song, but they also learn how to sing. They also grow spiritually, grow in confidence and self-discipline, and grow to feel more at home in their church. Rehearsals are Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Choir Room with Julie Platte (juliebplatte@ gmail.com).

MIDDLE SCHOOL WEEKEND RETREAT to Lake Champion is just around the corner, Friday, March 15-Sunday, March 17. PCUM has been going to this weekend retreat for more than 30 years! Experience the beginning of Lent!

Ash Wednesday Worship - Wednesday, March 6 @ 7:30 p.m.

Start your preparations for Easter (this year, Sunday, April 21st) with PCUM's Ash Wednesday worship service for all ages, Wednesday, March 6th, at 7:30 p.m.

This is an experience-based service designed for the whole family. Because God always reaches out to us first in Christ, our experience of God's Presence and God's love almost always comes before our understanding.  PCUM's 60-minute Ash Wednesday service is starts the season of Lent in a way that will deepen the meaning—and your appreciation—of Easter six weeks later!

Led by the Chancel and Youth Choirs and guided by hymns and scriptures, we will focus on our shared humanness and need for God. The service concludes with the intimate imposition of ashes, as we set off together to follow Jesus through and beyond death--and then to resurrection joy!
